Classic Tanning Oil

classic tan.

The same oil, without the coconut — a green aromatic scent instead, crisp rather than sweet, and nine ingredients with nothing else going on. It is a clear, light oil that sinks in rather than sitting on top. Nothing in it colours skin on contact: there is no bronzer and no self-tanner, so the colour you get is the sun’s, not the bottle’s.

What it is

Our plainest formula. A light mineral-oil base, one UV filter, aloe extract and fragrance. Against the Coconut Tanning Oil it drops Cocos Nucifera Oil and C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate and adds PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil — three ingredients of difference, and the coconut is the one you notice.

It also carries PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, a solubiliser that keeps the fragrance evenly dispersed in an oil with no water in it. Small detail, but it is why the scent stays consistent from the first pump to the last.

How it smells

Green aromatic — that is the perfumery family rather than a single note. Fresh and herbal, closer to crushed leaf and stem than to anything sweet, and it stays that way as the oil warms on your skin instead of turning sugary the way a tropical scent does.

It is the deliberate opposite of our Coconut Tanning Oil, which is coconut over caramel and coffee. If that one is a beach in a bottle, this is the cooler, cleaner one — no vanilla, no caramel, none of the sweetness most sun care leans on. It is the bottle to reach for if you would rather not smell like a holiday, or if you are already wearing a fragrance you do not want argued with.

How to use it

  • Warm in the palms, then spread a limb at a time.
  • Keep it off the skin you are protecting. Face, ears and shoulders get real SPF instead.
  • Reapply every two hours, and after every swim.
  • Short sessions beat one long one — colour builds over days, burns happen in an afternoon.

What is in it

Nine ingredients, in descending order of how much is in the bottle.

Paraffinum Liquidum
Light mineral oil — the base of the whole formula.
Ethylhexyl Salicylate
The only UV filter. A UVB filter, present at a token level: this is what SPF 2 means.
PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil
Keeps the fragrance evenly dissolved through an oil base.
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract
Skin-conditioning.
DMDM Hydantoin · Diazolidinyl Urea
Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives. Effective and common — flagged here because some people prefer to avoid them.

Always read the bottle. This is a cosmetic for external use. Formulations and packaging are updated from time to time, so the ingredients panel on the bottle you receive is the authoritative one. Patch test first if your skin is reactive, and stop use if irritation develops. Not medical advice. If you have a skin condition, a burn that blisters, a mole that is changing, are pregnant, or are treating a young child, please talk to a doctor. Full detail in our terms of sale.
